Watch out for a sizzling summer line-up on LEGEND this August, headed up the Channel premiere of David Mamet's neo-noir crime thriller HEIST. Starring Gene Hackman and Danny DeVito it remains the highest-grossing film of the writer-director's career in the US. Another stand-out director, Renny Harlin has two Channel premieres – breezy action-heist film THE MISFITS, starring Pierce Brosnan, and DRIVEN, an action sports film set in the world of cart open-wheel racing, written by and starring Sylvester Stallone.
Other Channel premieres include action-thriller TEARS OF THE SUN, starring Bruce Willis and Monica Bellucci, John Lyde's B-movie prison thriller RIOT, starring Matthew Reese and UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell, James Cullen Bressack's KILLING FIELD, starring Bruce Willis and Mark Burman's war thriller AMBUSH.
Plus, LEGEND continues to ride the nostalgia wave with the continuation of the classic '90s series BABYLON 5 on weekdays at 7pm, with the channel premiere of Season 3, landing from Thursday 10th August.
Let's kick off on the 3rd where Pierce Brosnan stars in THE MISFITS. Richard Pace (Brosnan), an internationally renowned thief is recruited by a group of modern-day "Robin Hoods" known as the Misfits. The team (including Nick Cannon and Jamie Chung) breaks Pace out of prison so he can help them pull off the heist of the century – stealing gold bars hidden under a maximum-security prison in the Middle East, which are being used to fund terrorism. Season 3 of BABYLON 5 (titled Point of No Return) stars on the 10th and is widely considered by fans and critics to be the peak of the entire space opera series. Airing originally from 1995 to 1996, this 22-episode season is where creator J. Michael Straczynski's five-year narrative arc accelerates dramatically, shifting from slow-burn world-building into a full-scale galactic conflict. On the same day we deliver war-torn action in TEARS OF THE SUN. Hardened U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) is sent to rescue an American doctor Dr. Lena Hendricks (Monica Bellucci). When the doctor refuses to abandon a group of refugees, Lt. Waters must choose between his orders and his own conscious.
Willis returns on the 13th in the channel premiere of KILLING FIELD. A decorated cop named David (Bruce Willis) is ambushed by a violent drug cartel during a botched bust. His partner, Cal (Swen Temmel), pursues the criminals to a remote farm owned by Eric (Chad Michael Murray), a troubled Iraq War veteran. When the rest of the gang arrives, the three men must team up to survive the siege. Crime drama on the 17th as Hollywood brings out it's bug guns for HEIST. Gene Hackman plays cool-fire Joe Moore, Delroy Lindo portrays his long-time sidekick, and Danny DeVito plays the manipulative fence who saddles Joe with one last, difficult job in this ensemble-driven caper centred on an elaborate, split-second snatching of gold ingots by Joe and his crew. Starring Aaron Eckhart and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, AMBUSH on the 20th concerns a group of elite commandos charged with securing classified information that could change the fate of the Vietnam war, and find themselves trapped in an underground. Surrounded by tunnels and the enemy, the team must navigate a labyrinth of tunnels to deliver the package to allied forces and secure their freedom.
Buckle up for high-speed thrills in DRIVEN on the 24th where a young CART driver Jimmy Bly (Kip Pardue) is losing his focus to his arch-rival. To keep Bly in the race, team owner Carl Henry (Burt Reynolds) pulls retired star Joe Tanto (Sylvester Stallone) out of retirement to mentor the rookie. Sylvester Stallone also wrote and produced the film. We have RIOT on the 27th which focuses on a cop who intentionally gets arrested and sent to a maximum-security prison to exact revenge on a Russian mob boss (played by UFC Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell) who murdered his family. Also stars Dolph Lundgren.
